Guidelines for Transferring from Master's to Ph.D. Degree (fast-tracking) Program

Approved at the faculty meeting, 11/07/1991 

1. This guideline is adopted pursuant to “NTUST Transferring from Master to Ph.D. degree program (fast-tracking) Regulation.”

2. Students in master program meeting the following conditions may apply:

- Completion of 18 or above credits during the first academic year of study.

- Obtaining an average grade of 80 points or higher during the first academic year of study.

- Ranking in the upper one third of the whole first year graduate school body during the first academic year of study.

3. Application date: will be announced at a future date.

4. Application location: Rm. E1-100, department office of Mechanical Engineering

5. Submission documents:

  • Application form for transferring from master’s to Ph. D. degree (fast-tracking) program
  • Transcript of the first and second semester in first academic year of master program
  • Letter of recommendation by at least two professors from registered or related department
  • Research plan
  • Comprehensive curriculum vitae including academic records and writings

6. The oral interview includes fundamental and professional engineering knowledge, and questions about the research plan. The committee consists of the academic council members in the department. The applicants will be notified about the  oral interview schedule.

7. Academic council members of the department will base the preliminary evaluations on academic performance (40%), oral interview (25%), and required documentations (35%).

8. The number of candidates to be chosen will be a fifth of the doctor’s degree population (rounded up to the next higher whole number).

10. These regulations and its related provisions will be effective immediately after enactment.
